Live in the Street

Benjamin One hit us with a new MPD routine today. It’s recorded live, one take, one shot and is straight dynamite. The resulting track drifts between raw electronic drumming and a more mellow flow, starting off at a head-nodding 92bpm the routine then switches up to double that. We want to know when the album is coming out..

Make sure to check out benjaminone.com and his soundcloud here.

Seattle throwdown 2011

Brandon Hobush took home the 6th annual Downtown Throwdown win and that excellent $5000 cardboard cheque. For our money – we were feeling Scott Stevens’ style. He took fifth.. There’s some real steez in the video so check it, look out for a 50-50 to front flip 50-50, some ill transfers and even a little Moonwalker action. The video and images courtesy of YoBeat.

Sci Fi Stu – The Most Efficient

Produced by Edinburgh based Sci Fi Stu, Venomous2000 The Most Efficient features CyMarshall Law, John Robinson, El Da Sensei. Big line-up right? The track hits you with enough boom bap to make your head nod like it’s a 90′s joint but the production’s smoother. The Most Efficient is track number 3 off the album “A Moment To Reflect II” now available for download at http://www.venomous2000.bandcamp.com/

Make sure to check Sci Fi Stu’s other production work on his soundcloud and website, he’s put in his work and if you ask us – it’s time he got some well deserved wider recognition. There are a couple more of his tracks below, One Dimensional has been on rotation since we heard it about a month ago.

Ghost Feet

ghost feet live

More homegrown beats, this time from Ghost Feet based in Olympia, WA. Hobbes and Qloq assemble tracks using guitars, drum pads, synthesizers and field recordings, and can pull it all those Wires and Chords into an ill live performance. They just dropped a 4 track EP called Wires and Chords on Dropping Gems ( check the Holodecker EP while you’re there ) ..

We’re really stoked to see a continuation of the new music tradition from our home-from home Oly, and Ghost Feet twist it producing shimmering layered electronic beats. Did someone say Boards of Canada?

nice nate – beat: therapy

nice nate

Alright it’s about time we highlighted some homegrown talent. Let us introduce one of the freshest new producers in Seattle, nice nate. His progressive sample based music has no doubt been influenced by the pioneering sounds of NW hip hop like Blue Scholars and Common Market but there’s a real raw side to the way nate is approaching his chops.

He’s really going to be one to watch in the coming months, so look out – and if you’re lucky enough to be able to reach to one of his live shows, get down to it. Download beat: therapy here, and check a sample track in the player below.

DJ Nu-Mark

Click here to watch the video full-window size.
We really like this new DJ Nu-Mark ( of J5 ) video. He tells us a little about what he does and his collection of music toys, and take his newest toy over to Burce Forat who customizes MPCs and mixers. Bruce does a real nice job on the car toy and Numark throws down a fun live track.

.. “we’re here!”

STMB Beat Battle – 200

Always worth checking out the Stones Throw Message Board Beat Battles. The last weeks winner gets to pick the sample, one week to flip it and it’s open to anyone. When Stones Throw do any kind of promo the number of entrants goes from about twenty up to over a hundred. Competition is always tough, and this one’s a big one – battle #200 – but we think our man Ben One‘s entry
